After about an hour of travel, we arrive in Valbona and check into the guesthouse around 11:00 AM.

After settling in, we suggest visiting the Valbona River, one of the most stunning landscapes in the Albanian Alps. You can enjoy a pleasant walk along the river, perhaps stopping for a refreshing dip in its cold, clear waters. The route is easy, and you can spend several hours relaxing and taking in the beauty of nature.

Don’t forget to bring your swimwear, as you might want to take a swim in the crystal-clear waters. Afterward, you’ll have the chance to return to the guesthouse for some relaxation and enjoy a traditional dinner as the sun sets.

  • Valbona Waterfall Start the day with a visit to the Valbona Waterfall, a majestic and peaceful spot, only a short hike from the village. The waterfall cascades down the rocks, creating a refreshing mist and offering a great spot for relaxation and taking in the natural beauty of the valley.

  • Hiking to the Valbona Pass After the waterfall, embark on a hike to Valbona Pass (Qafa e Valbonës), which stands at an altitude of 1,800 meters. The hike offers spectacular panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. On a clear day, you can see all the way to the neighboring Theth valley. The hike takes about 4 to 5 hours, and you’ll experience the beauty of alpine meadows, rugged peaks, and deep green forests.

  • Lunch Break After a long hike, enjoy a traditional Albanian lunch at a local guesthouse or restaurant in the village of Valbona, where you can sample dishes like tavë kosi (baked lamb with yogurt) or byrek (savory pastry).

  • Exploring the Valbona River In the afternoon, take a peaceful walk along the Valbona River. The clear, flowing river offers a perfect environment for a relaxed stroll or to sit by the water and enjoy the tranquility of the surrounding nature.

  • Lock-in Tower (Kulla e Ngujimit) For a deeper dive into the region’s history, visit the Lock-in Tower, a traditional defensive tower that was used by locals for protection during conflicts. The tower offers a fascinating look into the region’s cultural heritage and gives you a sense of what life was like in ancient times.
